Charlie Sheen broke through as a film star in Oliver Stone’s “Platoon” and “Wall Street.” Mr. Sheen continued his bankability in film after film, as his lifestyle followed the familiar yet corrosive arc of Hollywood, landing him at rock bottom with arrests for drugs and domestic violence.

For eight successful seasons, with a salary of $1.2 million an episode, Mr. Sheen was the star of “Two and a Half Men,” produced by Warner Brothers, owned by Time Warner and broadcast by CBS. On March 8, 2011, Warner Brothers fired the actor after he verbally attacked the show’s executive producer earlier in the month, prompting CBS and Warner Brothers to discontinue the season. Some of the comments were viewed as anti-Semitic.

The dismissal came after Mr. Sheen continued to berate the show’s creator, Chuck Lorre, giving a series of interviews to the morning shows of two networks, a gossip Web site and a Los Angeles radio station, transfixing the public and feeding the media. He drew more than 1.5 million followers on Twitter.

Taking the unprecedented step of firing an actor from one of the highest-rated programs on television, Warner Brothers said Mr. Sheen's “statements, conduct and condition prevented him from performing his essential duties.” The studio, which owns and produces the series, will decide about the future of the program at a later date, a spokesman said.

Countering, Mr. Sheen filed a suit in March demanding more than $100 million in damages for first halting production on episodes planned for the season and then removing him from the show.

In early 2000, Mr. Sheen moved from film to television when he replaced Michael J. Fox on the ABC comedy ''Spin City.'' Contrasted with the on-and-off-air wholesomeness of Mr. Fox, Mr. Sheen's flourishing acting career had been derailed by a bad-boy reputation. He partied and drank too much, used drugs, was a close buddy of Heidi Fleiss, the so-called Hollywood madam, and seemed a prime candidate for oblivion. The actor’s stints in and out of rehab sparked the street slang “prehab” in 2010.

To the actor’s surprise, and that of virtually everyone else connected with it, ''Spin City,'' earned some of its highest ratings ever, drawing larger and younger audiences than the episodes that starred Mr. Fox.

Yet Mr. Sheen also drew notice for his off-screen violence. In 2006, his wife at the time, Denise Richards, filed a restraining order, charging that Mr. Sheen had pushed her down, thrown chairs at her and threatened to hurt her in person and on the phone. The couple eventually divorced. Mr. Sheen then had a series of very public relationships, but he also continued to exhibit a pattern of violence toward women.

In rants that led to his dismissal in March 2011, Mr. Sheen denigrated Mr. Lorre, the most successful comedy producer currently working in television, as a charlatan whose show became a success only because of Mr. Sheen’s own talents. He repeatedly called Mr. Lorre by the name Chaim Levine, which executives from both CBS and Warner Brothers interpreted as a veiled anti-Semitic attack. Mr. Sheen was also criticized by the Anti-Defamation League for those comments. (The comments probably went back to a mention Mr. Lorre himself once included on the show, where he called himself Chaim Levine. That is his Hebrew name. He was born Charles Levine.)

Mr. Sheen himself was born Carlos Irwin Estevez to Martin and Janet Sheen in New York City in 1965. Martin Sheen was born Ramon Estevez but at 19 adopted his wife's Irish name for the stage.Дадаць дакумент у свой блог ці на сайт 2010-07-19 18:44 Читать похожую статью
